This year at Mississippi State University we are once again hosting a three day workshop for middle and high school band directors. The dates are June 14-16 here on our campus, and our clinicians are Dr. Steven Moore (Colorado State University) and Dr. Rick Good (Auburn University).
A variety of topics related to middle school and high school band are slated for discussion. In the marching band arena, topics will include sessions on precision marching fundamentals, effective drill design and rehearsal techniques. Concert band issues include effective communication from the podium, appropriateness of literature, recruitment and retention ideas and developing music literacy through comprehensive musicianship. Additional discussions regarding the development and mastery of appropriate learning goals for the second year student and beyond as well as topics related to managing a diverse classroom will be presented by additional guest clinicians.
